History of Burr Ridge
Burr Ridge, Illinois is a suburb of Chicago located in DuPage County. Burr Ridge IL is among the wealthiest towns of Illinois and is known for its grand palaces and mansions. The first settlement of Burr Ridge was founded by Joseph Vial when he built a log cabin here. The family was highly involved in politics and instrumental in creating the congregational church.
The first democratic convention was held in 1835, and a small settlement of German farmers came to Flagg Creek in the early 1880s. Denver Busby bought 190 acres of land and established Burr Ridge dairy farm. Robert Bartlett, a well-known developer, established the Hinsdale countryside Estates from a former pig farm. Burr Ridge IL was formerly known as Harvester. In 1956, it was named Harvester village in honor of the international Harvester festival. In 1961, the International Harvester company merged with Burr Ridge Estates, and the name was changed to Burr Ridge.
Eventually, the subdivision became a gated community of multimillion-dollar homes. In 1970, the Burr Ridge Club was established by boy scouts of America. The town became wealthy due to its proximity to I-294 and 55. The Robert Vial home relocated to Pleasant Dale Park and now houses the Flagg Creek Historical Society.
